ACRP Assists Laurel Highlands CIT

By Jamie Loncar, Howard Shacklock, & Dave Haschak

“A CIT, or Crisis Intervention Team is an innovative program of police-based crisis intervention involving community health care and advocacy partnerships based on a nationally recognized model developed by the Memphis, Tennessee Police Department.” On April 20 2007, the states first locally trained CIT officers graduated from the training program.

In a continuing effort to support the community, ACRP assisted in training the officers.  David M Haschak LPC conducted a training workshop on April 18th

designed to assist officers in approaching a child or adolescent with a mental illness, who is in crisis.  The officers participated enthusiastically and relayed that they have a better understanding of what the child may be dealing with as they “roll” onto the scene.  Continued....

ACRP SCIENCE FAIR By: Nikolas Janakovic

Students from ACRP’s St. Michael’s, Rockwood, and Hastings schools participated in this year’s science fair.  The top 13 students were chosen to represent all three schools.  All participating students received certificates and gift cards..  Using cornstarch and iodine, one of the students won the top prize by creating invisible ink.  As Carol Onufro explained, “The students put a lot of effort into their projects, and it was very difficult (for the judges) to choose the best candidate.”  The students worked on their projects for several weeks and utilized many different types of skills to accomplish their objectives. Thank you to First Energy for providing us the grant to purchase many of the materials needed which enabled this year’s Science Fair to go above and beyond projects of the past.

Ask the Local Expert

Dr. Mary Berge, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist.

She has been employed by ACRP since 2001.

Q: Do dreams really have meaning?

A: Dreams are a sequence of images, sensations and thoughts which flow through a person’s mind while sleeping.  Some of the content is residue or leftovers from the day’s more neutral events.  Other dream content however, can actually be tied to more personal circumstances (emotional, psychological, interpersonal etc.).  Thus, to uncover the meaning of a dream it is important to look at your own personal life and experiences of both the present and the past.
