Caring for Children

Caring 4 Children campaign

The Alternative Community Resource Program (ACRP) is teaming up with BiLo Foods stores for the 5th consecutive year to draw attention to and help assist in the prevention of child abuse. BiLo Food sand Riverside Markets “Caring for Children Campaign” is designed to help protect children and families by raising community awareness of the problem of child abuse and neglect and raising money to help support local child abuse prevention programs and organizations.

BiLo/Riverside’s“ Caring for Children Campaign,” will run from June 4ththrough the 24th to provide safety and educational resources for parents while encouraging shoppers to make a difference in their community.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to help child advocacy and abuse prevention programs break the cycle of abuse through education and awareness programs,” said Mary Anne Hankins, Director of Consumer and Public Affairs for the Penn Traffic Company, which operates 26 corporate BiLo supermarkets in Pennsylvania and 29associated BiLo and Riverside stores. “We are counting on the tremendous generosity of our consumers and the dedication of our employees to help make Caring for Children in2006 even more successful than last year’s campaign.”

ACRP is a non-profit agency that works with disadvantaged, abused, neglected and at-risk children and families in Cambria, Somerset, Bedford and Blair Counties. Our mission is to provide these families with the tools they need to rebuild their lives, and when possible keep the family intact.

Participating BiLo Foods and Riverside Market stores throughout Cambria and Somerset Counties will be collecting $1 or $5 donations, from shoppers, to aid child abuse prevention agencies and provide services for abused and neglected children. For their generosity, shoppers receive a “thank you” coupon for discounts on popular products. Customers can purchase a “Caring for Children” donation card at the register.

Customers can also be assured that money raised at each of the participating BiLo/Riverside stores benefits the programs and services operated by ACRP, will stay in the community in which it was raised and be spent helping youth and families in our region. Past donations helped us purchase arts and crafts supplies, provide evening and after-school programs that keep children involved and interactive, assist with community services projects and purchase everyday essentials such as shoes, clothing, hygiene products, etc… to name a few. Many of the children ACRP services are often from disadvantaged homes and families in our community and benefit from the support and programs ACRP offers daily.

Shoppers who would like to learn more about preventing child abuse or keeping their families safe are invited to stop by BiLo Foods stores throughout the month. ACRP staff and volunteers will be on hand at each in-store events to answer questions and hand out free information for parents.

ACRP has also contacted several other local agencies to ask for their participation and additional safety information that will help strengthen family relationships. Please see each individual store for a schedule of events.
